Lords of the Pha (Original) 2019

The Pha were a Roger Zelazny-inspired setting of incestuous lords taking the power of ancestral regalia and thinking they’re all that. They are not invulnerable.

The core piece is The Pha Hunt, about one of those things that works to make them know they are not invulnerable. The cousins must gather, for once, and deal with it.

A very short prequel piece shows Natalia before the action starts.

And there is a wholly unrelated earlier moment called A Pha’s Grace.

That’s all I ever wrote for this setting. I thought the Hunt could be a novel, but I’m happier with it at 6000 words.

Silence descended among the cousins.

“We have twenty years to live,” spat Bradford.

“Or less,” said Dorian.

“Stuff it, Dorian.”

“Bradford,” cautioned Richard. “We have twenty years to find or make the next generation of Pha. And the regalia will burden us progressively more heavily until we hand them on.”

“Father was blind and weeping by the time he handed his regalia on,” said Roderick. “I never saw him in greater joy than in letting it bind to someone else.”

“Then we have nothing to do but breed,” said Dorian. “If someone hadn’t made a century-long chastity pledge just to enjoy the innocence of the world. It does seem that Felicity is the only womb we have left.”

“You’re still equipped,” said Roderick.

“I’m not that much in love with any of you. So, speaking of cousin Felicity. Someone must tell her.”
